We paired this delightful Chilean Chardonnay with a creamy chicken and mushroom dish – wonderful! It was lovely as soon as opened but it developed so well over an hour or two. Not too chilled, it was creamy, buttery and a little earthy making it the ideal partner for our main dish!
Available at Beaconsfield Wine Cellars for around £13.50…..
Brazilian Bordeaux blend!
Had a mild panic last night when realised that the red wine storage plan had failed. Off to Waitrose and found this little treasure!
One of the few Brazilian wines that I’ve ever tried, and definitely one to try and try again….
Not only did it drink well as an aperitif – soft, fruity, low on tannins but full of flavour – but it also drank well alongside a lovely piece of fillet steak :-).
From Waitrose, £13.49.
Mud House!
A fascinating example of the classic Marlborough Sauvignon, we picked this up at Majestic for a steal. .!
To the nose, this was an obvious Marlborough Sauvignon. To the palate, it was slightly zingy, tangy, a little buttery and rather more robust than we’d come to expect from this region and grape.
All in all, lovely wine, excellent value and no doubt we’ll be doing a few more of these!
Surprisingly palatable!
This was billed as a “spicy” and characterful red to match red meat and game dishes. So, I had a couple of pleasant glasses alongside a red meat dish and followed up the next night with a couple of glasses … Continue reading
M&S Merlot !!
I would usually expect to enjoy a smooth Merlot at almost any time, and I probably raised my own expectations beyond the reasonable when I picked up this 2011 from Italian producer, Arrigo Bidoli. Sadly, this one under-delivered. At £10.99 … Continue reading
Delightful Verdejo!
We first discovered this lovely Verdejo whilst on holiday in the Canaries this year – and we were so pleased to find it stocked in our local Majestic! It’s fresh and fruity, crisp and clean – simply delightful! We’re definitely … Continue reading
Domaine Terres Gentilles 2010
Available from Majestic, this Macon Lugny is a pleasant, easy drinking white from Bourgogne. Nothing special, but soft aromas of citrus and honeysuckle make this wine a good partner to the grilled chicken dish that we paired it with. Certainly … Continue reading

Argentinian Malbec Shiraz 2010
A very pleasant, drinkable Mal-Shaz from one of my favourite developing regions – Argentina. One could initially mistake this deep red wine for a Cabernet, and it could perhaps display a little more fruit. Nonetheless, an extremely smooth, well-balanced example … Continue reading
High hopes – dashed!
The Reynella came as a highly recommended Shiraz and, having been so impressed recently with the Angels Share from McLaren Vale, I was actually excited before trying this one. Oh well, never mind. It was okay but I was expecting … Continue reading
